Hope seems like such a distant and foreign word to these weather-beaten faces, to them who have lost everything

In one of the most notorious areas in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, a group of Christians has brought the love of Jesus onto the streets through Alpha, ministering to the homeless, drug addicts and ex-convicts.

Alpha on the Streets is run in collaboration with a local homeless drop-in centre in the city. The centre provides the perfect setting for running Alpha as the homeless drop in daily for meals and to have showers. Alpha is run every Friday during lunch at the centre.

Hope seems like such a distant and foreign word to these weather-beaten faces, to them who have lost everything — money, family, friends, honour and self-esteem — and who are living in a vortex of darkness and addiction that they can’t seem to get out of. It is hard to blame them for not being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

More than anything, Alpha has brought about the restoration of hope in their lives.

Through Alpha on the Streets, they are given the opportunity to hear about the good news — of a Father in heaven who loves them and has a plan for their lives. Many experienced God’s forgiveness and healing power for the first time during the Alpha Weekend and Healing sessions. Week after week, the ardour of God’s love never fails to melt the toughest of hearts.
