GLOW the Alpha Youth Conference hosted by Alpha Malaysia was held from 24 – 25 June 2016 in Acts Church, USJ Subang, Malaysia. This year’s GLOW Conference saw more than 450 young people, over 80 churches in Malaysia and across Asia Pacific.
The purpose of GLOW is to inspire and encourage our next generation to live out invitational lifestyles using Alpha. As this is Alpha Malaysia second year running GLOW, a new track was added for those who had experience in running Alpha. Ben and Jason of the Alpha Youth Film Series were one of the main speakers this year.
The event kicked off with a great GLOW-in-the-dark opening act by a group of local artist called PsycuSix flow. Followed by a full two days programmes comprising of sessions covering topics on how to run Alpha, learning each other’s best practices; exciting games, a flashmob, watching an episode of the Alpha Youth Film Series and an interview session with Rev Miles Toulmin, Ben and Jason.
One of the highlights of the conference was ‘The Coconut and Banana Show’ hosted by Paul Kong and Aaron Anand of the Alpha for Youth/Campus Team featuring Ben & Jason in a three battle rounds – The Lip-Sync, The Guess-Sync and The Pass-Sync.
Towards the end of the conference, participants were asked to write the names of their friends whom they want to be prayed for on a balloon. The balloons was passed around and each participant had to picked one balloon randomly and start praying for the names written on it for the next six months.
Alpha Malaysia hope that this event will cultivate and revitalise the next generation to reach out and to live their lives for Jesus.
